Where the work is done:
The Policy Analysis team are working towards securing a coherent policy approach at national, regional and local level for the ‘3Es’: education, enterprise and employment. We stress that they are fundamental to sustainable job creation.
Unemployment, labour market trends and job creation are some of the most important issues for the Western Region. Long term unemployment, emigration, a mismatch between the supply and demand for skills and the urban focus of recent job growth are amongst the main challenges we face.
Our team analyses the region’s labour market, including travel-to-work patterns and available labour supply, to identify and highlight our specific needs and resources. This analysis helps the WDC make policy recommendations in job creation and unemployment.
Our analysis of the region’s enterprise profile and trends gives an understanding of its economic structure and the basis of the local economy. The region’s enterprise structure largely determines its private sector employment patterns.
